The deadline for the H&HS rule is Sept. 20!

aggro me, Mona Shaw
Right before we left for Dragon*Con, Tim shot me a petition from the ACLU, giving us yet another source to use to put the pressure on Health and Human Services. I hope everyone is keeping an eye on this and keeping the pressure on, particularly since, except for Keith Olbermann on MSNBC a while back, no one in the mainstream media is even talking about this.

It's truly scary, how quiet people are being about something with such potentially disastrous consequences. I don't know about you folks, but I'm more worried than ever.

edited to add:
[info]lilithschilde suggests getting in touch with your senators and congresspeople to see if they can bring some pressure to bear, and I think it's a good idea.

Given the current pair running for the Republicans, I'm terrified.

However - and on an entirely different note, I have a message from a new fan.

I gave this young woman your Protector of the Small series for a combined bat mitzvah/twelfth birthday present a couple of weeks ago. She cornered me in synagogue yesterday - she has reached the end of Squire and she's very disappointed - Keladry had been so cool until she had a romance! If she wanted romance, she'd read Stephenie Myers (which she is.) I had to reassure her that Keladry would not be turning into a girlfriend.

She also wants to read the other books you've written now. :)

Yikes! Please assure her from me personally that even my girls who do have romantic interests do not turn into girlfriends!

She also wants to read the other books you've written now.

My heartfelt thanks to you for finding a new fan for me!

And they get scarier every day. What is happening to this country?

Quiet?
More likely is "distracted by other things behaving in a noisier fashion".

Either way, though...

Doubtless you are right, and per [info]mamadeb, some of those noisy others are very bad, but I'm just hoping to remind folks of the sneaky danger with the close-to-hand deadline.

Some of those distractions...
...include keeping an eye on things closer to home. This item for example. And I suspect that making sure that our own dragon is well and truly disposed of this time may ensure a safer haven to run to, for however long it's allowed to last if things go Truly Wrong on your side of the Line.

Thanks for posting this. Signing petitions makes me feel marginally better about an appalling situation. Why the hell is this not a huge news story?

I could come up with all manner of paranoid possibilities, but I'm once again on killer deadline for a third rewrite for BLOODHOUND and must spare my fingers for that. But paranoid possibilities do occur. More likely, it's more of the same old, it's-not-news-when-it's-women's-health-care-issue problem.

Thanks for this. I posted to my LJ, signed the petition, and I'd already emailed both of my (both female) senators and my congressman. Every little bit of noise on an issue like this helps.

I've only got the one senator who cares about this (Hillary Clinton), but it's worth a try!

I can't promise Olympia Snow and Susan Collins will support it, being Republicans, but they're usually pretty liberal leaning for Repulicans and being women I would certainly hope they'd understand how important this is.

Here's a link for folks reading this, incase they don't know who their legislators are:

Signed!

Also, I cannot tell you how tempted I am to crochet a little uterus (complete with Fun Fur menses) and mail it to these people. "If you people can't comprehend what it's like to not be in control of your own uterus without actually having a uterus - here, have one."

Just another reason to be glad I don't live in the U.S., and to feel bad for those who do. :-( It continues to astonish me how different our two countries can be.

I found out about it through Daily Kos and sent it on to about 100 friend and family members. Hopefully they continue to pass the word.
