Boskone cancellation

For anyone looking to see me at Boskone, I'm having to cancel my appearance at the Boskone science fiction convention this weekend. My back injuries from my accident, plus a badly bruised right arm I got on a fall on my (indoor) stairs last weekend, plus the White Tiger #6 script that's due Monday that I haven't touched, all dictate that I stay inside my 2+ feet of snow-enshrouded home.

Tim's going, to convey my groveling to all of my friends who have seen me at Boskone over the last 8 years. Yep. This is the first time I've missed Boskone since I started going. But my arm hurts too much to sign things, and it's going to be a treat just typing revisions to WT#6.

So my apologies if anyone reading this thought to see me there. It's been one a those years, and it ain't even two months old.

Ah, don't feel too bummed out. Life's what happens while we make other plans, and if your friends are as cool as you know they are I'm sure they'll understand. The most important thing is your health. . .and deadlines. Maybe not necessarily in that order. ~.^

It depends on who you ask. My Random House editor at least will say my health is more important, but I'm not sure about the others . . .

Oy... I hope you convalesce well and quickly. I still think that writers should get sick days/ much more flexible schedules. Also, perhaps only in this case, a full suit of armor; if you keep damaging yourself like this, perhaps you should look into a good blacksmith.

I'm beginning to think you have a point about the blacksmith.

I'm sorry you're injured! The combination of bad back, bad arm and looming deadline sounds horrific.

I am not going to make it either. The sidewalks are icy, and I am gigantically pregnant and hugely exhausted. I was feeling kind of bad about missing the opportunity to see you when you'd have been so close.

I hope the weekend goes productively, and your various injuries heal soon!

I don't feel so hideously bad, then, because I was busted up over not seeing you. But BIQ is in April, when you will no longer be hugely pregnant, yes?

I've had one of those too, so I entirely comprehend what you're feeling like. Your inability to attend also isn't that much of a let-down to me, as I'm all the way over in Australia. That means to me, your wellbeing trumps the appearance.

I hope you're on your way towards mending.

Yeah, except the pain meds make it impossible to focus on the ms. I'm supposed to be rewriting for Monday. Got to lay off those for the weekend.

What?! And miss an opportunity to scar some fan for life by letting her meet cranky, stressed-out, in pain, "my other car is a broom (and not the in the Hogwarts way)" Tamora Pierce?

Have you no sense of propriety?!

But, seriously now --

Rest up and feel better.

(Um ... and chocolate and a nice bottle of wine and dancing boys, too.)

We're living in Syracuse now, so NYC get-togethers are hard in any case!

Pretty much what everybody else said.

Thank you for taking care of yourself in this regard. We all prefer that over your coming when you shouldn't.

It's not even close. (And that would be true even if there were no editing or writing happening at all.)

I'm gentle as hell with me. It's hard things that keep rising up to smack me that need to lay off!

You've probably seen pictures of the Helix nebula out the wazoo, but I saw a beautiful one on MCNBC.com. What a gorgeous, gorgeous thing! It reminded me why astronomy was such a happy subject for me, even if I didn't do well at it!

*hugs* We'll miss you, but health is far, far more important.

Stay inside with the kitties and hot tea (or hot chocolate) and work and hopefully things will heal.

And it may be one of those years already at 2 months, but that means there are 10 months for it to get better.

And I just want to add that I think you and your husband are both awesome. It's so rare that comic fans have the pleasure of writers from outside comics come in and actually give up quality work *gasp* on time. You treat your work our medium with just as important as your other work and I really, truly appreciate that. It's refreshing and I wish more outside creators would follow your lead.

The Choaties always gave February a very rude nickname...the year may only be two months old -- not trying to jinx you! -- but surely some nice things will happen, too. I'm sorry you feel too poorly to go to Boskone, but we fans are an understanding bunch, especially if you send Tim to explain and be charming.... Best wishes on both injury-healing and work-doing!
