Oh, a GLITCH . . .

Amazon explains it all to the LA Times: their system has a glitch. It's a good one, too. It only goes after books with gay themes and content. Some misbegotten person said earlier that those books actually lost their sales rankings due to their adult content, but that couldn't be so, not with books about GLBTs and their rights under the law, or teen titles with no sex involved, or picture books. But now it's all made clear.

It's a glitch.

We can all sleep safer tonight. At least, until we write something that gets excised cut glitched.

G'night, friends and neighbors.

edited to add:

Yay! AP finally catches on! Yay! (Though I hate to add a Washington Post link because they're being such shitheads about current government. They useta be smart, but they got teh stoopid.) (It's late. Don't mind me.)

Everyone clap your hands if you believe in glitches!

...yeah, that's what I thought.

Yes, I especially love that they caught this "glitch" AFTER at least hundreds of people emailed complaints about the PUBLISHED FREAKING MEMO on the subject. Because glitches have reasoning, too, like being concerned about their larger constituency.

A depressing amount of people predicted this move. The depressing part comes in that they were right. D:

The depressing part comes because I didn't bother to put money on that.

Wow, that's a mighty premeditated glitch, there.

Honestly, what a terrible PR job. What's sad is I didn't even expect them to tell the truth in the first place--I immediately thought, "I wonder what lie Amazon will tell to try and wriggle out of this?"

Definitely not buying from Amazon anymore. I'll stick with my local bookstore, thanks, even if it does cost more. They don't *glitch* my books.

Have you read this yet?

Explains how it could be a "glitch" that Amazon didn't plan on. Makes for interesting food for thought, was it Amazon, or was it trolls manipulating the system?

Content can't be flagged on Amazon in the same way it is on LJ; and if it's a code glitch, they're still idiots for having such a messy backend.

Did the glitch send out the e-mail about the new adult content policy, too? Because if so, that is a real smart glitch, right there. We may have to boycott Amazon purely to prevent it from evolving into Skynet.

Does this mean that the GLBT stuff was part of the glitch but that the adult content stuff wasn't? Or was it all a glitch?

Don't mess with the GLBT folks and internet people's porn, y'all. It's like trying to take guns away from Texas (which I can say, because I'm Texan o.-)

...what the fuck. Really? Sorry, but I thought I lived in a country that was supposed to allow people's voices to be equally heard. Or promoted, in this case. My bad.

Tammy, totally unrelated, but I'm sitting here avoiding writing a novel synopsis for my editors by reading Young Warriors>, and it's SO GOOD. SO SO GOOD. Also, bonus points for PoC on the cover!

hmm, unrelatedly, The picture of dorian gray has GLBT material? I don't even remember. I just remember loving the concept of that book (the picture goes ugly! he doesn't!) and then loving the book when I finally got my hands on one to read it.

Amazon has been deranking books for moral reasons since at least August 08:

The hypocrisy--claiming to serve the world while slyly cutting away pieces of it to leave us with a cleaner/safer/straighter world--makes me daffy.

To quote someone else: Glitch, please.

What a load of old cobblers, Amazon.

Before they tried to pull the "glitch" crap I was considering making my boycott of Amazon only until they apologized, but this weasely BS they're pulling is seriously making me consider putting Amazon on my perma-ban list. -.-

I know. If you're gonna fuck me, really, shouldn't you kiss me first, guys? I hate it when people think I'm stupid.
